Table of Contents

If you are running an online store or planning to start one in the near future, you will likely be searching the internet for different ways to set it up. If you are a WordPress fan, then you would have probably heard about WooCommerce and think about it as the only choice. But that is not true at all, there are other fully featured WordPress ecommerce plugins and ecommerce platforms that might be interesting to explore.

So, without further ado, let’s jump into the best WooCommerce alternatives in 2025 so that you are aware of all the options out there and what pros and cons come with every platform.

Why choose a WooCommerce Alternative?

So why would one want to choose a WooCommerce alternative in the first place?  The answer is simple. Every platform comes with a drawback. WooCommerce is a bit complex to use, and for someone who is just starting, it can be a little difficult to grasp. Secondly, WooCommerce tends to consume more resources as the store closes, without expert help it can be hard to optimize, luckily there are many WooCommerce hosting providers that do a good job in helping to run stores at peak performance without costing you a fortune..

Lastly, WooCommerce is high maintenance. And we mean that literally. The whole idea of an ecommerce platform is the ease of use in every manner, and if you are spending much of your time in security checks, regular maintenance, and plugin updates, then it’s more of a hassle than a problem solver for online store owners.

WordPress Ecommerce Plugins

We will start this list with plugins that convert WordPress websites into ecommerce stores. They work like WooCommerce, but some of these plugins are built for niche-specific websites, and you won’t require a lot of add-on plugins to add more functionality to them.

SureCart

SureCart has many good things that make it useful for building ecommerce businesses. The plugin operates using cloud servers, which means that most of the work is performed on secure servers on the internet, rather than on your website’s hosting.

This helps your website run faster and smoother because it doesn’t have to do all the work by itself and scaling your ecommerce store is less demanding on your hosting budget. Setting up SureCart is quick and easy because it provides a straightforward starting process that requires minimal setup work from you.

The plugin already includes the important features you need without having to add lots of extra apps or extensions. Another good thing is that SureCart is light and easy for developers to work with, meaning it doesn’t add extra files or slow down your website, which makes it much easier to take care of.

However, SureCart does have some limitations that should also be considered before making up your mind. The plugin doesn’t connect well with many other apps, and while it can work with WordPress plugins, it doesn’t have its own special apps that could make your store even better.

SureCart also doesn’t give you as many choices for big stores, making it perfect for small and medium businesses, but very large companies might still want to use WooCommerce because it gives them more options to customize their store. Additionally, SureCart only supports four main payment methods, which means it cannot accommodate all the various ways customers may want to pay for things.

EasyDigitalDownloads

Easy Digital Downloads is yet another WooCommerce alternative that we think should be on the list, and as the name of the plugin suggests, it is best used for building ecommerce stores that sell digital goods and licenses. This is based on the number of features and functionalities that this platform has to offer.

Firstly, Easy Digital Downloads offers a big library of extensions and add-ons that are easy to install. Their payment integration system is a breeze, which is probably the hardest thing to do for new WordPress e-commerce users. With EasyDigital Downloads, you can directly install any gateway with the help of an extension and that’s it.

The good thing is that while many people are reluctant to move over to a new platform, Easy Digital Downloads offers a free plan. And it’s not your 30-Day or 3-Month trial but rather a lifetime Free plan that allows you to add unlimited products and sell as much as you want, but you can’t access advanced features while using the free plan. This is great for testing the waters without denting your wallet. Once you feel that this is the platform for you, you can move up to their personal, extended, and professional plans based on your needs.

North Commerce

North Commerce claims to be the fastest and easiest way to build successful online stores directly on WordPress. The best part is that you don’t need any coding skills to use it, making it perfect for any type of ecommerce store. North Commerce helps you market your products, sell them, and deliver them to customers like a professional.

North Commerce also claims to be an all-in-one solution, which means you get access to the same tools that successful stores use to make millions of dollars every month. Instead of searching for and installing 50 different plugins or spending lots of time on complicated setup work, North Commerce comes ready to use.

The system is designed to help your business grow quickly by providing everything you need in one place. Whether you need an online store, help with sales, or shipping solutions, North Commerce has it all in one convenient plugin. The platform promises very fast page loading times, store designs you can customize, and pre-tested online store elements that have already been proven to work well.

Some of North Commerce’s key features are as follows;

  • Fully Customizable Block Editor
  • Seamless Checkout Process
  • Works with any WordPress Theme

North Commerce also provides you with an edge when it comes to shipping. You can create your own shipping labels directly from the platform. This has been possible due to their collaboration with EasyPost, letting you save up to 88% off normal shipping rates. North Commerce also offers integration with a lot of popular platforms like Make, Zapier, Pabbly Connect, and Alloy, which let you automate a lot of regular tasks directly from the platform.

One of the most important benefits North Commerce boasts is fast page loading speeds. When your website loads quickly, more visitors are likely to buy from you, which means more sales and conversions for your online store. This speed advantage can make a real difference in your business success.

North Commerce offers lifetime pricing plans, which means that you pay only once and get access to all its current and future features.

FluentCart

The new kid on the block is FluentCart, a new online store plugin for WordPress websites. While there isn’t much known about this platform, all the hype behind FluentCart being the up-and-coming WooCommerce alternative is because of being called the most easy to use, feature packed and fastest ecom platform for WooCommerce.

FluentCart is a new e-commerce tool that’s part of the Fluent family of products. What makes it different is that it’s fast and modern, built from scratch without old, outdated code that slows things down. It has an easy-to-use interface that anyone can understand, and it’s free and open source, so you can use it without paying fees. The setup is quick, letting you start your store easily without technical problems.

You can sell many different types of products with FluentCart, including digital downloads, subscription services, physical products, and licenses. The store management is simple with drag-and-drop features to organize products, a simple checkout process, instant payments, and a smooth ordering system for customers.

The dashboard is helpful because it lets you track your sales in real-time, see which products sell best, and get reports that are easy to understand so you can plan your business better. FluentCart also includes extra features like cloud storage options, customer accounts, team member access control, discount coupons, shipping management, tax handling, and even a dark mode display.

One of the best things expected from FluentCart is that it would be able to handle growth. The platform will be able to manage thousands of products and millions of orders without slowing down. Unlike some competitors, FluentCart is truly self-hosted, which means you have complete control over your store and data.

We have already joined the waitlist for FluentCart so expect a full review of the platform once it goes live.

Our opinion is that FluentCart feels like what we have always wanted from a WordPress e-commerce platform. It should be simple, fast, and powerful. If you’re tired of slow, complicated store setups, then FluentCart might be worth trying.

WooCommerce Alternatives: Non-WordPress Ecommerce Platforms

Shopify

The first one on the list of WooCommerce alternatives is Shopify. You might have heard the name already, and we will tell you why it has been the go-to option for a lot of store owners. We will also be able to tell you why Shopify might not be the ideal option to go for based on its Pros and Cons analysis that we will do at the end of this review. So sit tight.

Shopify is a platform that is fully-hosted, so you do not need to worry about having an extra hosting plan. You just pretty much have nothing else to do except for managing your store right from their platform, and Shopify takes care of all the rest.

So if you are looking for ease of use then Shopify has that. The platform is user friendly which is great if you are just starting out. And its not just a beginner only platform. From a business owner who is just selling hair clips for little girls to large enterprises who are selling in multiple countries, everyone uses Shopify. So scalability is another aspect that Shopify offers its customers.

And to top it all off, Shopify has countless apps that lets you do just about anything that you would want to do on your store to make it a breeze for you and your customers

Right from the start when you sign up for the very first time on shopify all the way to managing thousands of SKUs, Shopify will be a treat to handle. However, all of this isn’t for free.

One of the biggest downsides of having Shopify is that is comes with a high transaction fee on top of their monthly/ yearly plans. And some of the must-have plugins on Shopify also come with paid plans so you have to keep that in mind as well.

shopify transaction fee

Yes, it’s literally free for the first 3 months but this is just to get you started and hooked. Once you have set up your base on Shopify and are almost used to every thing and how to use it, it’s pretty much likely that you wouldn’t want to switch especially with all the time and effort it takes to migrate a store. So rather than drooling over a 3-month $1 plan and then binding yourself to at least $25 in monthly subscriptions and 2% transaction fee, why not go for something else,  that might be cheaper and offers pretty much the same things as you expected from Shopify.

BigCommerce

This brings us to our next on the list of WooCommerce alternatives, BigCommerce. The platform is not as popular as Shopify but their built-in features and scalability are something that make them the next best option after the top two.

The first great pointer that makes it a good WooCommerce alternative is that it doesn’t come with a transactional fee. Yes, unlike Shopify; BigCommerce doesn’t charge a transaction fee, which can be a huge amount if you are managing a big store. And honestly, this makes much sense as you are already paying a platform for their services so why share an extra piece from the cake?

The next pointer on BigCommerce’s side is the huge list of built-in features that doesn’t require you to have additional plugins to do your day-to-day on the online store. BigCommerce also offers multi-channel selling, making it easy for you to sell on more than just one platform. Amazon, Facebook, and Instagram are just a few of the big ones in the list. This lets you use a single platform to manage all of your products and orders without ever leaving your dashboard. Furthermore, there are several other features, such as Advanced SEO tools and products that let you do a lot more without relying on third-party applications and plugins.

So now that we have talked about all the good reasons why BigCommerce can be considered a good WooCommerce Alternative, let’s talk about some of the downsides as well.

First and foremost, BigCommerce is on the higher side when it comes to pricing. BigCommerce’s basic plan starts from $39 per month which drops to $29 if billed annually.

bigcommerce pricing

However, that’s an almost 50% increase if you compare it with Shopify. Ofcourse, you don’t need to pay any transaction fee on every order but if you are just getting started you might wanna think what is gonna cost you more. Secondly, unlike Shopify or WooCommerce, BigCommerce doesn’t have much to offer when it comes to themes. Although all themes are fully responsive, you are still going to feel lacking if you have an eye for attractiveness.

Squarespace

Moving forward, the next platform on the list of best WooCommerce alternatives is Squarespace. The pros? Extremely stunning design templates and the ease of use. Yes. While Shopify and WooCommerce might be considered the kings, Squarespace isn’t far behind. Squarespace offers beautiful template designs making your store look as if it was a custom made masterpiece. And on top of that, the entire template is literally drag and drop so you don’t need any technical expertise to set it up.

Similar to Shopify, Squarespace has its own hosting and domain features so you are also not going to be troubled with the extra hassle of purchasing a domain and separate hosting. E-commerce features also come with the platform and the best part is that it has great tools to help you in On-Page SEO to help you rank better on search engines.

Like any other platform, Squarespace has its cons too. The starting price of $40 per month is relatively high. And on top of the high fixed monthly cost, Squarespace doesn’t offer that much flexibility when it comes to features. Squarespace was built keeping in mind non-technical website and online store owners, which is why they offer just as much as the new guy needs. As soon as you want to dive deeper, you will notice that you are missing on the advanced features. So if scalability is what you might need in the long run then you would have some problems.

Magento

Next up, and probably the best WooCommerce alternative out there, is Magento. Being an open-source platform, Magento offers a wide range of customizations. This powerful platform offers great flexibility and the option to scale as much as you want. The platform is a go-to option for large businesses. If you are doing your usual day-to-day on an online store but are worried due to its bigger scale, then Magento is your guy. The platform has their own huge list of documents and online material that will help you if you are stuck. And if that’s not enough, they probably have the strongest online community that helps you with just about anything.

The customization features offered by Magento are unmatched as you can literally alter every aspect of your store to meet your needs. As mentioned, scalability is not a problem and you can manage thousands of products and high traffic without a sweat. However, all this needs its equal amount of technical expertise. Either you or a developer might need to fold up their sleeves but the end result will always be worth it.

Since the open-source version of Magento is self-hosted, that means you will need to find a suitable Magento hosting platform that fulfills the demands of your Magento store.

Wix

You might have seen them on Youtube ads, indeed they make very creative and convincing ads.. But there is a reason why Wix has made it to the list of top WooCommerce alternatives.

The first thing that goes in favor of Wix is their easy-to-use, drag and drop style website builder. Honestly, it is as user-friendly as a builder can be. They top it with design flexibility, giving you a variety to choose from. So if you are on a deadline to make your online store up and running in as little time as possible, then Wix should be your go-to platform.

wix pricing

The downside is quite obvious. Wix isn’t that powerful when it comes to scalability, and competitors like Shopify, Magento or BigCommerce easily take the lead on this. Customizations are there, but it’s not the same as you would expect from platforms like WooCommerce or Magento.

But that’s the problem for another day if you are just starting out. If that’s the case then you don’t need to worry about scalability or customization right now and Wix would be able to deliver what you want.

Other WooCommerce Alternatives and Ecommerce Platforms You Should Know About.

Ending Words

All the platforms mentioned in our list of WooCommerce alternatives have their strengths and Weaknesses. There isn’t any clear winner as it all depends on what you are expecting from them.

Based on pricing, scalability, customization, and technical expertise it’s always recommended to seek the middle ground. One of the most significant problems right after your online store starts growing is scalability.

And while you can always migrate, it’s not as easy as it sounds. Especially when you have a huge number of products, custom pages, and designs that your clients are accustomed to from Day 1. Which is why having a clear head when it comes to deciding on a platform will help in the long run. Hope his article was valuable enough in helping you decide on your WooCommerce alternative.
